The Liberty Avenue Project was a series of actions in the Cultural District, an area of downtown Pittsburgh undergoing arts-based redevelopment. The area is currently home to the only group of queer bars in Pittsburgh, the remains of a red light district, and several long-standing theaters. The project investigated the relationship between redevelopment and class-based definitions of culture.
A series of investigations and conversations with users of the district culminated in a three-part event that engaged gallery-goers in a discussion about Liberty Avenue and their own experiences of home. Messages from other users of Liberty Avenue gathered during earlier phases of the project were delivered during the event.
